Chris Cooper (www.profchriscooper.com) is an Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Essex and holds an Honorary Professorship at UCL in the Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering. He has published over 200 papers in the field of oxygen biology and medicine. His current research projects include: (i) using near infrared spectroscopy to measure oxygen metabolism and hemodynamics in sports performance; (ii) using recombinant technology to develop a novel hemoglobin based oxygen therapeutic. He has published two popular science books "Run, Swim, Throw Cheat – the science behind drugs in sport” and “BLOOD : A Very Short Introduction”.
